Seattle Pacific University’s rowing and track and field teams both placed second in competitions this week in Idaho and Florida. Track broke the men’s 4×400-meter relay record and rowing Varsity 8+ defeated all other Division II competition in their first race of the season.
Rowing
The Seattle Pacific women’s rowing team participated in the Florida DII Spring Invite hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Clermont, Florida from Friday, April 3 to Sunday, April 5. Seattle Pacific finished among the top DII teams throughout the weekend.
The Varsity 8+ crew consisted of senior Lexy Roybal as the coxswain, sophomore Solanes Capps-Mace, senior Amelia Pape, senior Emma Jones, freshman Miriam Dykstra, senior Bella Linesby, junior Emmerson Spencer, junior Grace Combs and senior Gem Gatmaytan.
The varsity 4+ crew was made up of coxswain sophomore Sasha Kolobovnikov, freshman Kaitlin Hollebeek, junior Mia Vittori, sophomore Elizabeth Chapman and senior Brittan Dalberg.
On Friday, April 3 the Falcon’s Varsity 8+ crew earned second place in the first day of the Invite with a time of 7:03.40 minutes falling short to Vanderbilt University’s time of 7:00.70 minutes.
Varsity 8+ participated in two more races on Saturday, April 4. They placed second in their first race of the day marking 6:54.30 minutes and third in their second race of the day with a time of 7:5.30 minutes.
Also on Friday, April 3, the Varsity 4+ crew placed fourth with a time of 8:36.23 minutes. On Saturday, April 4, the Varsity 4+ boat finished with a time of 8:02.52 minutes in the first race of the day and 8:24.37 minutes in their second race, placing sixth in both.
Women’s rowing will be competing in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in Sacramento, California on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26.
Track and Field
While at the Whitworth Peace Meet on Friday, April 3, Seattle Pacific’s Track and Field had high performance across five of the 24 event groups offered in Spokane, Washington.
The men’s 4×400-meter relay, made up of sophomores Robert Joshua and Justin Brooks, and freshmen Ben Rojas and Tawaf Aboudou, placed second with a time of 3:14.46 minutes, breaking the Seattle Pacific 2005 record of 3:18.05 minutes.
During the men’s 400-meter race, Rojas took third with a time of 48.51 seconds. In the same race, Brooks finished in fourth place with a time of 48.76 seconds.
In the 10,000-meter race, junior Anna Prussian and senior Matise Mulch placed third in 37:11.26 minutes, and sixth in 38:55.01 minutes respectively.
Track and field will compete again on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 at the Wildcat Invitational, taking place in Ellensburg, Washington at the Central Washington University Recreation Sports Complex.
