Associated Students of Seattle Pacific President-elect Odessa Durante stepped down from the position on Wednesday, March 25. ASSP will be hosting a special election on Wednesday, April 8 to determine the ASSP President for the 2026-2027 school year.
The election results were intended to be announced to the student body on Friday, Feb. 13. However, they were officially released on Thursday, March 5. ASSP President Ryan Fecarotta, a third year majoring in computer science, commented on the delays involved with the announcement.
“There were internal processes that made it necessary to have delays to ensure that no information was shared prematurely,” said Fecarotta.
Fecarotta made it clear that the postponements in election information would not negatively impact the hiring process for other student government positions as Seattle Pacific transitions into its next school year.
“We’re doing everything we can to make sure that even with delays, there aren’t any problems. We’re still on track to have all positions filled and to have things running smoothly for this year and going into next year, even with delays,” said Fecarotta.
ASSP Vice President-elect and current Officer of Finance Benjamin Buehs, a third year majoring in economics, explained that he must decide the 2026-2027 ASSP cabinet with Fecarotta’s help due to the unconfirmed status of the President-elect.
“It’s frustrating, in my opinion, that we don’t have the current president-elect to be in charge or taking a large role in deciding that next cabinet,” said Buehs.
The runner up of the initial ASSP presidential election Evan Fish, a fourth year majoring in computer science, intends to run again in the special election.
“It’s not like I have lost my care to try to support the students and try to better the university and try to better how ASSP stands for the clubs and for the student body,” said Fish.
