Seattle Pacific University athletics kicked off the spring quarter with two sports events. Women’s golf played in Pueblo, Colorado while track and field broke records in Tacoma, Washington.
Women’s Golf
On Sunday, March 22 and Monday, March 23, Seattle Pacific women’s golf competed against 15 universities during the Southern Colorado Open in Pueblo, Colorado. The team placed 7th with a total score of 758 points.
In Chico, California, Seattle Pacific will compete in their last tournament of the regular season on Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14 at the Chico State Invitational.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
In Tacoma, Washington, the Falcons competed at the Peyton-Shotwell Invitational on Saturday, March 28. Out of the 36 events offered at the meet, Seattle Pacific competed in 18 and placed on the podium 11 times.
In both the women’s 100 and 200-meter dashes, sophomore Jada Sarrys scored second place. She ran 12.19 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 24.91 seconds in the 200-meter.
Freshman Ayala Pontius won second place in the women’s 800-meter dash, timing 2 minutes and 21.42 seconds.
Senior Maya Ewing got third place in the women’s 1500-meter dash at 4 minutes and 44.59 seconds.
Senior Hannah Chang raced to second place in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at 14.42 seconds. Chang also won the women’s 4×100-meter relay alongside Pontius, sophomore Sophie Hanay and Sarrys, timing 48.28 seconds.
During the javelin throw, freshman Lysandra Plant won third place, throwing 37.19 meters.
In the men’s 100-meter and 200-meter dashes freshman Tawaf Aboudou won third place. Aboudou ran 10.87 seconds in the 100-meter and a record-breaking 21.6 seconds in the 200-meter, beating the previous 1956 record of 20.9 seconds after hand-time conversions in the 220-yard dash set by Roy Duncan. Aboudou also won the men’s long jump, landing 6.99 meters.
Junior Mason Hrcek won the men’s pole vault with a height of 4.49 meters.
Track and field will return in the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, Washington on Saturday, April 3 and the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, California on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4.
