Seattle Pacific University men’s and women’s basketball both broke their losing streaks during their four home games at Royal Brougham Pavilion. Coming home from the track and field indoor GNAC championship, Seattle Pacific left with seven All-Conference honors and three new records.
Men’s Basketball
Seattle Pacific played against the University of Alaska, Fairbanks on Thursday, Feb. 19 and lost 74-78. Graduate student Trace Evans scored a team-high 17 points.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, Seattle Pacific beat the University of Alaska, Anchorage 67-59. The win broke the men’s basketball’s three-game losing streak, maintaining their spot for the GNAC championship.
Women’s Basketball
Seattle Pacific women’s basketball won against Alaska, Fairbanks on Thursday, Feb. 19, 78-63. Junior Grace Leasure had a career-breaking game, with career-highs of 21 points, 13 rebounds and her first double-double of the season.
The Falcons lost their game against Alaska, Anchorage 52-91 on Saturday, Feb. 19. Leisure performed another double-double for Seattle Pacific with 19 points, 13 rebounds and three steals.
Track and Field
In Spokane, Washington, Seattle Pacific competed in the track and field Indoor GNAC Championship on Monday, Feb. 16 and Tuesday, Feb 17. Senior Hannah Chang and freshman Tawaf Aboudou placed first at their meets, while the men’s relay team set a new school record.
Chang won first in the 60-meter hurdles by 0.01 seconds, setting a new program record of 8.52 seconds. This ranked her 15th nationally in the NCAA Division II season.
Clearing 7.11 meters, Aboudou claimed first place in the men’s long jump, making him the third SPU athlete to win the event at the GNACs.
The men’s 4×400 relay team, sophomore Robert Joshua, sophomore Justin Brooks, freshman Alex Venable and Aboudou, beat the previous Seattle Pacific record of 3:20.48 seconds, by 0.1 seconds. The team placed fourth with a time of 3:20.38 seconds.

Men’s basketball will play their final game before the GNAC Championship against Montana State University Billings on Saturday, Feb. 28 in Royal Brougham Pavilion at 2 p.m.
Women’s basketball has two more games before the GNACs. On Thursday, Feb. 26, they will play Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. They will then travel to Burnaby, British Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 28 to play Simon Fraser University.
As the indoor track and field season closes out, the qualifying athletes for the NCAA Championship will compete in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
The outdoor track and field season will begin with the Ed Boitano Invitational on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7 in Tacoma, Washington at Baker Stadium.
