The Seattle Pacific University men’s and women’s basketball teams had a hard week of away-games. Both teams fought to stay among the six free slots to qualify for the fast-approaching GNAC tournament. Meanwhile, men’s and women’s track and field broke personal and school records during their third meet of the indoor season.
Men’s Basketball
The Seattle Pacific Falcons lost against Western Oregon University 49-50 on Thursday, Jan. 29, at Monmouth, Oregon. Junior Theo McMillan got his second double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and getting a career-high 12 rebounds.
In Lacey, Washington, on Saturday, Jan. 31, SPU beat Saint Martins University 76-72. Redshirt junior Julian Mora scored a team-high of 19 points for Seattle Pacific. McMillan led the team with six rebounds and a game-high of nine assists.
Women’s basketball
On Saturday, Jan. 31 in Billings, Montana, SPU women’s basketball lost to Montana State University, Billings 39-74. Sophomore Grace Mertes and junior Grace Leasure both scored a team-high of 10 points for the Falcons during the game.
Track and Field
From Friday, Jan. 30, through Saturday, Jan. 31 Seattle Pacific’s track and field competed at the University of Washington Invite, in the Dempsey Indoor Center. Out of the 26 meets offered, SPU competed in 16 over the course of two days.
During the women’s 60-meter hurdles, senior Hannah Chang finished fourth with a season best of 8.70 seconds, beating her previous season record of 8.75, by 0.05 seconds.
In the men’s 60-meter dash, freshman Tawaf Aboudou ran a 6.80 second finish, breaking SPU’s current school record of 6.86, and landing second place. Sophomore Robert Joshua finished the same race in fourth, with a time of 6.94 seconds. Both performances put Aboudou and Joshua among the top finishers among NCAA Division II racers.
During the men’s 200-meter dash, Joshua beat his personal record of 22.35 by 0.08 seconds, clocking his new record at 22.27.
Freshman Brooke Mosby beat her previous record in the women’s 200-meter dash, finishing in 25.31 seconds, and beating her personal best of 25.64 by 0.33 seconds.

On Thursday, Feb. 5, men’s and women’s basketball are playing a double-header in Royal Brougham Pavilion. At 5:15 p.m. men’s basketball will play against Simon Fraser University, followed by women’s basketball playing against Western Oregon at 7:30 p.m.
Between the games, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is hosting a food drive which will be donated to the Ballard food bank. Children under 12 who bring three cans of food to donate will get into the game for free.
Track and Field will compete again at UW’s Dempsey Indoor, during the Husky Classic from Friday, Feb. 13 to Saturday, Feb. 14.
