The Seattle Pacific University men’s and women’s basketball teams played two double-headers at Royal Brougham Pavilion. Both teams played Central Washington University, then Northwest Nazarene University over the course of two days. Seattle Pacific’s track and field broke five records during the University of Washington Preview.
Women’s Basketball
Playing against Central Washington on Thursday, Jan. 15, the Seattle Pacific women’s basketball team lagged behind CWU throughout the match, finishing the first half 27-46 and losing the game 56-88. Junior Grace Leasure led the team, scoring 17 points, four rebounds and six steals during the game.
During the game against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Jan. 17, SPU tied the match at half-time but eventually lost 62-72. Junior Layne Kearns tied NNU for a game-high 17 points. Kearns also got a team-high of eight rebounds and four assists during the match.
Men’s Basketball
On Thursday, Jan. 15, Seattle Pacific men’s basketball won against CWU 66-63. Junior Theo McMillan scored a career high of 16 points, beating his previous score of 10. Junior Connor Drinkwine also scored 16 points, beating his previous career-high of 12.
Seattle Pacific lost at the buzzer against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Jan. 17. With seven seconds left, McMillan passed the ball to redshirt junior Julian Mora who scored a 3-pointer. At the buzzer NNU scored two points, ending the game 71-72. McMillan scored a new career-high of 18 points and eight field goals for SPU on Saturday.
Track and Field
On Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17, SPU men’s and women’s track and field participated at the University of Washington Preview at Dempsey Indoor Center. Seattle Pacific competed in nine out of the 18 meets.
Junior Mikel Saxon performed a pole vault of 14.9 meters, winning second place at the meet. Saxons performance was the best among NCAA Division II competitors.
In the women’s 60-meter dash, sophomore Sarah Bailey finished with a time of 8.13 seconds, a new personal best from her previous 8.22 second run last year. Sophomore Tarelle Hunter finished the men’s 60-meter dash in 7.29 seconds. During the 60-meter hurdles, senior Hanna Chang earned third place, finishing in 8.75 seconds.
Freshman Brooke Mosby raced in both the 400-meter and 200-meter dashes. She finished with two personal bests of 58.75 seconds in the 400-meter race, and 25.64 seconds in the 200-meter.
Sophomore Justin Brooks finished the 800-meter race in one minute and 55 second, beating his previous record of one minute and 58 seconds by three.
Sophomore Joshua Robert ran the 400-meter race in 50.81 seconds, one second less than his previous record.
Freshman Tawaf Aboudou was the highest finisher in the triple jump competition in NCAA Division II, getting 46.10 meters.
Senior Maya Ewing, finished 12th in the 3000-meter race with 10 minutes.

Men’s and women’s basketball will travel to Alaska and play the University of Alaska, Anchorage men’s and women’s basketball teams on Thursday, Jan. 22. On Saturday, Jan. 24, they will play the University of Alaska, Fairbanks men’s and women’s teams.
On Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31, the men’s and women’s track and field team will compete again at the Dempsey Indoor Center for the UW Invite.
