Last week, the Seattle Pacific University Falcons saw hard fought GNAC championship battles in both men’s and women’s soccer. With soccer and volleyball coming to an end, basketball swings into their winter season.
Men’s Soccer
On Thursday, Nov. 13, Seattle Pacific men’s soccer played Western Washington University in Burnaby, British Columbia. The Falcons beat WWU 5-3.
This was the Falcons first win in GNAC Men’s soccer history. Junior JJ Dias completed the first hat trick in SPU’s GNAC men’s soccer history.
In their final GNAC match, SPU men’s soccer faced off against Western Oregon University in their inaugural game Saturday, Nov 15. The Falcons lost 1-2.
The men’s soccer team will advance to the NCAA tournament. Their next game will be against Midwestern State University on Saturday, Nov. 22, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Women’s Soccer
The Seattle Pacific women’s soccer team played Western Washington in the GNAC championship Thursday, Nov. 13. The Falcons lost 1-2 in double overtime. Their only goal in this match was from freshman Grace Coston, the first in her Falcon career.
This was the last game of the women’s soccer season. They won eight games, tied five and lost seven over the course of the season.
Volleyball
The Falcon’s women’s volleyball team faced off against Saint Martins University on Thursday, Nov. 13 in Royal Brougham Pavilion. The Falcons beat the Saints winning all three rounds 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23. Freshman Peyton Ensign set a new three-ace career best this game.
Each SPU volleyball team member invited a professor to the match. The players honored the faculty on the court with a small ceremony right before the game.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, the SPU women’s volleyball hosted Western Oregon in Royal Brougham Pavilion. The Falcons beat WOU 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 25-21).
Coming up next, for the last match of this season, the Falcons will be traveling to Fairbanks, Alaska and playing University of Alaska Fairbanks Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.
Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team’s first game was canceled against California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt on Friday, Nov. 14 due to a leak in the gym’s roof.
The team played their second game of the season against California State University, Chico on Saturday Nov. 15 in Azusa, California. The team stayed ahead in the first and second halves before losing 71-80 in overtime.
Redshirt junior Julian Mora matched his career high 18 points against Chico State, which was previously set on Nov. 5, 2023.
The Falcons will play against Evergreen State College on Friday, Nov. 21 in Royal Brougham Pavilion at 7 p.m.
Women’s Basketball
On Friday, Nov. 14, Seattle Pacific women’s basketball played their first game of the season against California State University, Los Angeles. The Falcons lost 63-75 by the end of four quarters.
In her debut game for the Falcons, redshirt freshman Grace Turley led SPU with a career high 18 points, 38 minutes played, seven field goals and seven rebounds. Freshman Cascadia Yates, junior Naomi Hotchkiss and freshman Kara Wilson also scored their first career points for the Falcons during the game.
Seattle Pacific played their second game of the season against California State University, Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Nov. 15.
For the first two quarters, Cal. State Dominguez was in the lead, starting halftime 31-18. Seattle Pacific came back hard, winning 64-61 in the final 1 minute 50 seconds due to four points by Turley and two free throws from junior Layne Kearns.
Turley and Kearns tied for game lead with 17 points each. Kearns scored 11 rebounds, giving her the first double-double of the season.
The Falcons will play again on Nov. 20 against Occidental College in Los Angeles, California at 7 p.m.
