As the soccer, volleyball and cross country seasons started wrapping up, the Seattle Pacific University Falcons turned their gaze toward the upcoming GNAC championships and NCAA nationals.
Men’s soccer
On Saturday, Nov. 8 in Nampa, Idaho, the Falcons won against Northwest Nazarene University 4-1. Junior JJ Diaz scored two goals for the Falcons and assisted in a third, granting him MVP for the game.
This win tied the Falcons with Western Oregon University as the GNAC season’s co-champions. Seattle Pacific totaled 11 wins overall, the most they have had since they won the GNACs in 2021.
Men’s soccer will enter as the two seed in the inaugural GNAC Championship in Burnaby, British Columbia. They will play Western Washington University at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov 13.
Women’s soccer
Seattle Pacific’s women’s soccer beat Montana State University Billings at Interbay Stadium on Thursday, Nov. 6. The game ended 1-0. Kayla Wallce scored the only goal in this preliminary game, her fourth game-winning goal this season. The Falcons gained qualification to go to the GNAC Championship for the 13th time in program history.
In Lacey, Washington, the Falcons tied against Saint Martin’s University on Saturday, Nov. 8. The match ended 2-2 due to a goal by senior Kayla Wallace in the 77th minute. This made for Wallace’s 10th goal of the season.
Seattle Pacific soccer will enter the GNAC championship as fourth seed, and will face Western Washington University on Thursday, Nov. 13 in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Volleyball
Women’s Volleyball went up against MSU Billings on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Falcons won all three sets 25-16. Junior Christina Lopez recorded her game-high of 24 digs, adding to her total of over 1,000 digs in her career with the Falcons.
The Falcons will play their last game of the season at home against Saint Martin’s University on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m.
Cross country
Seattle Pacific University’s cross country team competed in the NCAA West Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 8 in Monmouth, Oregon. The team as a whole placed 7th, which is its best team finish since 2019, where they placed 5th.
Senior Maya Ewing had the fastest finish for the Falcons, landing in 8th place individually with a time of 21:31 minutes during the women’s heat. The finish earned Ewing All-Region recognition and a shot to qualify for NCAA Nationals on Nov. 22.
The NCAA National Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov, 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ewing will participate as the only SPU athlete going to the championship.
