Seattle Pacific University’s student-run radio station, KSPU, hosted rising indie band Good Enough for a live performance on Sunday, Oct. 27. Outside of the KSPU office on the second floor of Weter Hall, attendees were welcome to complimentary coffee and doughnuts to enjoy while watching the show. The event, called In The Stu, was free to everyone, with an option to watch a livestream for those who could not attend.
KSPU’s events manager, Oscar Warnersmith, is a third year music production major and main coordinator for In The Stu. His job is to reach out to artists and get them into the KSPU studio.
“In The Stu’s have been a tradition that KSPU puts on even since before I was working here. This is my second year as the events manager, and it’s kind of my favorite event that I do here, so I’ve been really motivated to make more of them happen, [and] bring in artists that I like,” Warnersmith said.
Good Enough, fronted by Ashwini Aphae and Marcus Jernigan, met in their freshman year at Georgia State University. Before they came together as a band, Aphae and Jernigan were unaware of each other’s interest in music.
“I just got a loop pedal back in 2021…’22? And I was just playing around with it, and Ash was over at my place and she heard it and she was like, ‘Oh that’s really pretty, can I write something to it?’ And I was like, ‘I didn’t even know that you wrote music!’” Jernigan said.
Ten days prior to performing at In The Stu, Good Enough released five new tracks, disclosing that more were on the way.
“We just dropped an EP, so we just released new music last week. We’ve been trying to promote our new EP, it’s our first EP that we’ve ever written. It’s called Solace, it came out Oct. 17, and hopefully new music from us in the new year,” Aphae said.
The next In The Stu is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9, with a performance from local artist Rainbow Jackson. KSPU streams all their shows on Mixlr, and can be found through their website or on Instagram @kspu.
“I think you’ll see that even more in winter and spring quarter as we’ll have more time to book people, as we try to get more people in this year and try to do it every other week,” Warnersmith said.
