Republican response crucial in Roy Moore’s sexual misconduct allegations

Roy Moore, former state judge in the Alabama Supreme Court, is the Republican nominee in the running to fill the seat recently vacated by Jeff Sessions in the U.S. Senate.

However, his political campaign is not the only reason for Moore being a constant focus in the media lately.

The former judge was accused of sexual misconduct towards minors in several different cases at the beginning of this month.

There are multiple accusers in this allegation.

According to an article by the Washington Post, the allegations against Moore took place nearly forty years ago when Moore was in his early thirties.

The list of women, which has grown to five since the Post originally published its article, includes women who were all underage at the times of the alleged misconduct.

Their ages ranged from 14 to 18 years old.

This isn’t the first time Moore has been in the middle of controversy though.

Moore has previously been removed from his seat on the Alabama Supreme Court twice, for “demonstrating unwillingness to follow the law.”

In the past, Moore has also been known to have made several negative comments in regards to the LGBTQ community in the past.

Controversy regarding Moore does not stop there, as his wife recently published a list of Moore’s sponsors online. As it turns out, the list is outdated, and many of those on it claim to not have granted permission to be included.

Despite all these allegations, it appears that his campaign has suffered minimally.
Politicians have been the source of all sorts of scandals in the past and Moore is no different.

The allegations of Moore’s sexual misconduct are no surprise either, as lately the news have been filled with charges against prominent figures regarding similar
behaviors.

Even more recently, we have heard of cases regarding minors and have had to see an increase in the overt sexualization of child actors in Hollywood, like the cast
of “Stranger Things”.

Still, these facts do not make these accusations any less important or any less in need of addressing.

As of now, the Republican Party has yet to speak against Moore and his actions and he continues to be considered a possible option for the empty Senate seat.

Our nation has had a tendency to set concerns of sexual misconduct on the back burner. The accused makes a half-hearted apology or excuse and it seems that everyone moves on.

Consequences need to be more prevalent, and people like Moore cannot just keep going about their lives without any consequences.
To keep any semblance of morality, the Republican Party needs to condemn Moore and his actions.

The American voters must do the same, and show Moore, and others like him, that we as a people denounce these actions and stand by the victims.
