The Seattle Pacific University men’s soccer team went on the road on Thursday, Oct 16, their first game was long and ended in a tie. The second game finished on Saturday, Oct. 16, with an overwhelming victory.
The Seattle Pacific Falcons challenged Western Oregon University in Mammoth, Oregon at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16. With a goal by Western in minute 16 the Falcons fell behind. They quickly recovered when junior Rafael Lucio tied the game at minute 24 with assistance from junior Diego Pena-Salgado.
Seattle Pacific’s offense sent six shots that were all saved by the Western Oregon keeper. Sophomore Chrisian Chel Lara took a shot in minute 36, but it was saved. In minute 57, graduate student Brian Lanier made a crucial save to keep the match tied at 1-1.
Within the last five minutes of play both Lucio and redshirt senior Brady Fendrich took shots on the goal that were saved. The Falcons had four corner kicks and 16 shots total to try to get the ball in the net, but the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Saint Martin’s University Saints welcomed Seattle Pacific men’s soccer on Saturday, Oct. 18, in Lacey, Washington. The first half amounted to no shots made for either team.
The game intensified when redshirt junior Isaac Ketcham fired a successful shot on goal in minute 52 with assistance from sophomore Sebastian Rangel. Saint Martin’s countered with a goal in minute 57, bringing the score to 1-1 at the beginning of the second half.
In minutes 58 and 72, gameplay shifted further when senior Orlando Erazo scored back to back goals. His effort was soon followed with a successful shot by sophomore Lukas Shriner in minute 76, giving the Falcons a 4-1 lead.
In minute 78, Fendrich scored. In minute 80, freshman Harper Sabari, assisted by junior Silvestre Vallejo, scored, bringing the score to 6-1. Fredrich solidified SPU’s victory with two goals within minute 84 and 85; this awarded him a hat trick of three total goals that game. Seattle Pacific had 23 shots on goal while Saint Martins only had one. The Falcons overwhelmed the Saints 8-1.
The Falcons will travel to Burnaby, British Columbia and play against Simon Fraser University for the second time this season on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. Shortly after, they will face-off against Western Washington University on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Bellingham Washington.
