The Seattle Pacific University women’s soccer team had some shocking games this week, tying their first game on Thursday with less than a minute to spare, and conquering their second game, even with some unforeseen obstacles.
The Seattle Pacific Falcons played Western Oregon University on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Interbay Soccer Stadium at 5 p.m. Head coach Arby Busey was very proud of the team with how they kept their heads up throughout the match.
“It’s a little like crawling across broken glass playing these guys. They are a difficult, difficult team to play against and I was super proud of the way that we stuck to our guns and just kept fighting,” Busey said.
Over the 90 minutes played, both teams shot 15 times. Seattle Pacific had seven shots on the goal, while Western Oregon only had five. In the first half, Western Oregon scored due to the ball glancing off Falcon senior Emily Morandi in the box. The team ended the first half 0-1. The Falcons tied the game 1-1 in the final minute of the match due to a penalty kick taken by senior Kayla Wallace, her third goal of the season.
Montana State University Billings faced off against the Falcons on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Interbay at 1 p.m. Seattle Pacific shot a total of 29 times, three shots shy of the SPU record for most shots taken in a game, which was made in 2008.
In the third minute of the first half, Wallace scored the only goal of the game against MSU Billings. She was assisted by junior Andie Buckley and senior Taylor Krueger. This was Wallace’s fourth goal of the season, putting her in the lead for most goals scored in 2025 by Seattle Pacific.
In the 38th minute MSU Billings got the ball, due to the referee getting in the way of freshman Grace Coston. The goal was saved by senior Mercedes Cullen. The game ended in a victory for the Falcons with a final score of 1-0.
The Falcons will play Central Washington on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. at Interbay Stadium. They will then play Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at Interbay as well.
