Seattle Pacific University golf, volleyball and cross country competed in three away games and one home game during the week.
Golf:
During the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational in Billings, Montana on Monday, Oct. 6, and Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Falcons shot a third-place finish with a team score of 638. Sophomore Lauren Lee took fifth place among the individual standings.
The Falcons played 11 teams in the tournament including Montana State University, Billings who came in second and Rocky Mountain College who won first place. The top finishers for SPU were Lee, with a total score of 155, sophomore Natalie Eklund, who shot a 158 and junior Zoe Garcia who shot a 159 over the two-day tournament.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, Seattle Pacific went head to head against Saint Martin’s University in Covington, Washington. The Falcons lost the match with a team score of 306, two points more than Saint Martin’s score of 304.
Sophomore Alle Klemkow tied for first in the individual standings with a total score of 76. Top three scorers for the team were Lee with a 72, sophomore Anika Schau with a 76 and Garcia with a 78.
The Falcons will play at the Southwest Airlines Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii on Monday, Oct. 20, and Tuesday, Oct 21.
Volleyball:
On Saturday, Oct. 11, Seattle Pacific University won in four sets to MSU Billings in Billings, Montana. In the first set, the Falcons won 25-18 due to six kills by sophomore Brooke Williams, sophomore Joslyn Greff and redshirt freshman Elle McCandless. The second set ended with MSU Billings tying the sets 1-1 with a 20-25 point win.
The Falcons won the third set in a landslide, scoring a 20-9 run. They finished the set 25-18. Sophomore Amaya Evans scored four kills during that run. The Falcons closed out the final match 25-18 with freshman Megan Omlid scoring two kills and four other Falcons getting one kill each.
The Falcons will play Western Oregon University on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m.
Cross Country:
On Saturday, Oct. 11, the Falcon cross country team competed at the Emerald City Open in Seattle. Senior Maya Ewing won the 6000-meter race with a time of 22 minutes and 31 seconds. Junior Anna Prussian came in second, junior Matise Mulch took fourth place and sophomore Alexa Gossett landed in seventh.
During the men’s 8000-meter race, junior Silas Demmert was the top finisher for Seattle Pacific in fifth place with a time of 26:20 minutes. Sophomore Avery Erickson finished in ninth, timing 26:41 minutes with senior Isaac Venable landing 11th place just nine seconds behind Erickson.
The Falcons will begin their Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 25, in Billings, Montana.
