Seattle Pacific University Falcons took off with the first spree of games on Thursday, Sept. 4 and they will not stop any time soon. Across men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, cross country and golf, there have been 32 games over the last four weeks.
Men’s Soccer:
The men’s SPU soccer team lost their first game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 4, 1-2 against Stanislaus State University.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, SPU went up against California State University, Chico, winning the game 3-1.
The Falcons tied 0-0 against Cal State, Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 11. Seven shots were taken by the Falcons but nobody scored.
Saturday, Sept. 13, ended in another 0-0 draw for Seattle Pacific, this time against Cal State, Dominguez Hills. Five shots were taken during the 90 minutes played, but again, no scores.
On Thursday, Sept. 18, SPU beat Westminster University 1-0. The winning goal was scored by junior Rafael Lucio in the final 10 minutes of the match.
The Falcons went up against Regis University in Seattle on Saturday, Sept. 20. Seattle Pacific rallied after Regis scored their first and only goal, beating Regis 3-1.
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, SPU beat Dallas Baptist University 2-1, the game-winning point scored by Redshirt senior Brady Fendrich in the second half, his first goal of the season.
On Friday, Sept. 26, SPU competed in their final game before the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) against St. Edwards University. The Falcons won 2-1 thanks to freshman Kasey Toevs, who scored in the last 15 minutes of the game.
The Falcons will compete against Northwest Nazarene University in their first GNAC game on Saturday, Oct. 4, in Interbay Soccer Stadium at 4:30 p.m.
Women’s Soccer:
The women’s SPU soccer team won their first game of the season 1-0 on Thursday, Sept. 4, against Point Loma Nazarene University. The game-winning point was scored by senior Taylor Krueger in the 22nd minute with an assist from junior Andie Buckley.
On Thursday, Sept. 11, SPU tied 1-1 against Metropolitan State University of Denver. Freshman Grace Gouran scored first and fast early on, but the game tied up in the 45th minute due to a penalty kick from MSU Denver.
The Falcons lost to Regis 1-2 on Saturday, Sept. 13. In the first 16 minutes they had shot four times, but in the end, Regis took the game.
Seattle Pacific won against Cal State, East Bay 1-0 on Thursday, Sept. 18. The winning point was scored by senior Maya Parman.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Falcons tied 2-2 against Colorado School of Mines, the number one women’s soccer team in the country.
Thursday, Sept. 25 kicked off the first of SPU’s many GNAC games, which they won against Saint Martin’s University 4-1. Their second GNAC game was played on Saturday, Sept. 27, against Western Oregon University, which they lost 1-2.
The Falcons will go against Simon Fraser University on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. at Interbay Soccer Stadium.
Volleyball:
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, SPU kicked off their first volleyball game of the season by winning against Manhattan University in three sets.
From Friday, Sept. 5, to Saturday, Sept. 6, at Seaside, California, SPU dominated at the Otter Invitational Volleyball Tournament. The Falcons beat Lincoln Memorial in three sets and Cal. State, Monterey Bay in four. The Falcons continued their win streak the following day, crushing Westminster University in three sets and Dominican University in four.
From Thursday, Sept. 11, through Saturday, Sept. 13, the Falcons played at the Nighthawks Classic in Nampa, Idaho. They played four games, losing to Colorado School of Mines and Westminster in four sets on the first day. The Falcons beat Westmont College in four sets on day two. Day three was met with a three-set defeat against Concordia University Irvine.
Seattle Pacific returned to Seattle to compete in the GNACs which will go on well into November. The Falcons had a rocky start in the championship, losing to the University of Alaska, Anchorage in four sets on Thursday, Sept. 18 and University of Alaska, Fairbanks in three on Saturday Sept. 20. On Wednesday, Sept. 25 they lost again to Simon Fraser University in four sets.
The Falcons will play Northwest Nazarene next on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Royal Brougham Pavilion.
Cross Country:
On Saturday, Sept. 13, in Steilacoom, Washington, the cross country team opened their season by competing at the Green River Invitational in the women’s 4000-meter race and the men’s 6000-meter. Senior Maya Ewing won first place in the women’s race with a time of 13 minutes and 42 seconds.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, in Monmouth, Oregon, Ewing placed fifth in the 6000-meter course, clocking in at an impressive 20 minutes and 55 seconds. Senior Issac Venable came in seventh place during the 8000-meter men’s distance, finishing with a time of 25 minutes and 11 seconds.
The Falcons will meet at the Emerald City Open on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Lower Woodland Park at 10 a.m. This will be their final meet of the regular season, followed by the GNAC Championships in Billings, Montana.
Golf:
From Monday, Sept. 22, through Tuesday, Sept. 23, the SPU women’s golf team competed in the Grisham Memorial Shootout in DuPont, Washington, starting their second year off strong with a program-best of 300 points for the team. By the end of the second day the Falcons had settled into fifth place with an overall score of 608.
The Falcons will return to the green at the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational in Billings, Montana from Monday, Oct. 6, to Tuesday, Oct. 7.
