What’s new?
On the morning of Saturday, May 2, was the 39th annual Windermere Cup at Montlake Cut in Seattle, Washington, an invite-only rowing event held by the University of Washington and the Seattle Yacht Club. Of the 25 races at the Cup, Seattle Pacific University was represented in two of them by its Varsity 8+ boats.
The two boats raced in close succession, both in lane one for their respective races.
The 16th race of the Cup, designated Women’s Collegiate 4th Varsity 8+, set off at 10:52 a.m. Racing against SPU were the UW Huskies and the Western Washington University Vikings.
The Falcons, coxed by third-year Lexi Roybal, had a roster consisting of first-years Elizabeth Chapman and Jasmine Crisan, second-years Faith Akutagawa, Jadyn Hawley and Emmerson Spencer, and third-years Brittan Dalberg, Emma Spencer and Amelia Pape.
UW immediately took the lead by a long shot, leaving the Falcons and the Vikings neck-and-neck, scrambling for second place for the remainder of the race until the latter overtook the Falcons at the last second, leaving them finishing last at 7:23.310.
In the 18th race of the day, came the Women’s Collegiate 3rd Varsity at 10:56 a.m., with a lineup consisting of SPU, UW, UW-Bothel, and Seattle University.
Seattle Pacific’s team was coxed by fourth-year Mary Goodhew, and their roster consisted of first-year Solanes Capps-Mace, second-year Grace Combs, third-years Gem Gatmaytan and Bella Lisenby, fourth-years Addie Clark, Emma Ely and Audrey Rekedal, and graduate student Megan Rouse.
Seattle Pacific started strong in second place for the first third of the race, but the two Husky boats gradually put distance between themselves and SPU, leaving them once more taking third place at 7:02.735 and Seattle U coming in last.

The Falcons will compete at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, May 17, at Gold River, California. The starting time of the event is to be determined.
