Campus events are in full bloom at this point in the spring. Whether you are into kayaking, conversation about faith or “The Hunger Games,” or exploring justice and theology, there’s something coming up for everyone. Here is a guide to what is happening on and around campus from May 6 through May 12.
FEATURED EVENT — Lecture on Lessons Learned from Teaching the Holocaust
Weter Hall Room 202. May 12, 5–6 p.m.
Join Dr. Rebecca Hughes, the Chair of the History Department, in a reflective lecture as she prepares for her retirement in June. In the department’s informal series, “Past & Present,” each faculty member prepares a historical talk throughout the year.
“I wanted to share what I’ve learned from teaching the Holocaust and genocide, including from a study abroad in Prague in which we went to Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland,” Hughes said. “I believe we can learn from the past, and I try to apply these lessons from history in my own life.”
Having a talk like this at Seattle Pacific University is crucial for the future. “We must remember that the perpetrators of the Holocaust were human like us, otherwise we are denying that the Holocaust or genocide could happen again,” Hughes said.

Wesleyan Holiness offers a revivalist, intellectually robust, and justice-driven alternative for a broader Christian vision for the whole Church,” Seattle Pacific Seminary said. Dr. Doug Strong, Elizabeth Ingram Schindler, and Jaymes Lackey (lead pastor at The Table Church) will be speaking about the Wesleyan Option at this event.
