Multiple Falcon records and event wins made for a huge day for the Seattle Pacific University track and field team.
The Falcons traveled north to Bellingham, Washington, to compete in the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational on Saturday, April 25, at Civic Stadium.
Seattle Pacific took full advantage of the +1.3 wind factor and recorded their top performances in their last event of the regular season.
Track events:
Freshman Robert Joshua broke the all-time SPU record in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.70 seconds. This beat the previous record of 10.74 seconds set by Roy Duncan in 1958. Joshua also broke the fastest fully-automatic-timed men’s 200-meter SPU record, finishing in 21.62 seconds. This beat the previous record held by David Ferguson in 2013.
Freshman Andrew Bell broke the all-time SPU record in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.45 seconds and beating his previous SPU record of 14.50 on April 19.
Junior Hannah Chang won the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.03 seconds, just 0.10 seconds shy of her personal best.
Freshman Justin Brooks won the men’s 400-meter in 48.47 seconds.
Senior Johanna Brown ran a personal-best 200-meter time of 25.40 seconds, beating her previous best of 25.43 from April 12.
Freshman Evey Rowland set a personal record in the 200-meter with 25.79 seconds, finishing third in her heat. This beat her previous record of 25.82 seconds on May 8.
Graduate student Annika Esvelt had a personal best in the women’s 1,500-meter at 4:33.92, finishing fourth overall. This beat her previous best of 4:34.73 on April 27, 2024.
Field events:
Sophomore Mason Hrcek finished third in men’s pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters.
Upcoming events:
With the regular season complete, SPU will now focus on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, at the Civic Stadium in Bellingham, Washington.
Tentative start times are 12:30 p.m. for the field events and 3:00 p.m. for the track events on Friday. Saturday’s field events start at 11:00 a.m. and track events start at 1:30 p.m.
