
The Falcons recorded personal bests, heat wins and set all-time records.
The Seattle Pacific University track and field team traveled to compete in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, California, and the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, California, on Thursday, April 3, and the Whitworth Peace meet in Spokane, Washington, on Friday, April 4.
Numerous Falcons overperformed, leaving their mark on a special weekend for the team.
Track:
Junior Maya Ewing broke an SPU record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:35.63, beating the old record of 10:37.53 set by Kaylee Mitchell on March 28, 2019.
Junior Katelyn Flolo ran a personal record of 11:31.39 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, beating her previous record of 11:46.15 from April 8, 2023.
Graduate student Annika Esvelt ran the 5000-meter event in 15:56.94, breaking her outdoor record of 16:14.31 from the West Coast Relays in 2022.
Junior Hannah Chang recorded a personal-best 1:07.18 in the women’s 400-meter hurdle, beating her previous best of 1:08.41 from March 9. Chang also posted her best 100-meter hurdle time for the season, finishing in second place with 14.40 seconds. Her career best in the 100-meter hurdle is 14.25.
Sophomore Anna Prussian ran a personal record 10,000-meter at 38:01.57, beating her previous best of 38:15.88 on March 1.
Freshman Andrew Bell cleared the 110-meter hurdles at 14.56 seconds, just 0.6 seconds shy of the all-time SPU record held by Mark Stream in 1975.
Freshman Justin Brooks ran a 1:58.05 in his first 800-meter performance, winning his heat.
Field:
Sophomore Mason Hrcek finished in 10th place in men’s pole vault with 4.27 meters, and sophomore Mikel Saxon came in 14th with 3.97 meters.
Freshman Kaitlyn Askay recorded 3.24 meters in pole vault, finishing tied for 10th place.
Freshman Sophie Hanay recorded a 4.83-meter long jump, just breaking the top 20 and finishing 19th overall.

The Falcons will try to build off this successful week on their trip to Calremont, California, for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, April 12. Field events start at 10:00 a.m., and track events start at 10:15 a.m.
