Even across the border, the Falcons soared past the finish line.
The Seattle Pacific University track and field team went north of the border on Saturday, March 29, to compete in the UBC Open in Vancouver, British Columbia.
During SPU’s only international trip for this season at the University of British Columbia’s Rashpal Dhillon Track & Field Oval, the Falcons ran three personal bests.
Track:
Junior Isaac Venable set a personal record of 15:22.34 in the men’s 5,000-meter race, beating his previous best of 15:34.97 from April 27, 2024. He finished 20th overall, placing sixth in his heat.
Freshman Evy Rolland won both of her heats in the women’s 200-meter and 400-meter races on Friday. Rowland ran a 400-meter time of 58.95 seconds, which was a personal record, beating her previous best of 1:00.25 on March 22, 2025. She finished ninth overall in the 200 meters and fourth overall in the 400 meters.
Another freshman, Andrew Bell, set a personal record in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.97 seconds, beating his previous best of 59:32 seconds from March 8, 2025. Bell also won his first ever 100-meter heat with a time of 11.59, finishing third overall.
Graduate student Annika Esvelt placed third in the 1500 in her outdoor debut this season with a time of 4:35.05.
Field:
Sophie Hanay and Sophie Mock competed in the women’s long jump, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Hanay marked at 4.91 meters while Mock marked 4.89 meters.
Upcoming events:
On Friday, April 4, the Falcons are traveling again for the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at Cox Stadium in San Francisco, California. Some track and field athletes will also participate in the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, Washington, on the same day.
