Welcome to The Falcon’s weekly Seattle Pacific University event rundown. This week’s events include new ways to learn, poker and free merchandise. There’s no better way to kick off April than getting involved with the SPU community!
Featured event – Casino Night
Royal Brougham Pavilion Lower Gym, April 4. 7 – 9:30 p.m.
Unleash your inner poker expert at STORP’s first Casino Night since 2023. Five beginner-friendly poker tables, fuzzy dice, crafts, snacks, and a selection of mocktails will give you the casino experience without the cigarette smell. Responsible for the return of casino night is Samira Biembongo, a third year business administration major who acts as STORP’s Supply and Media Manager.
“It was such a fun and memorable experience that my team and I thought it would be a great idea to bring it back,” Biembongo said. “It’s like a big family game night where students can relax and enjoy themselves. It gives students a chance to step away from academics, hang out with friends, meet new people, and enjoy a stress-free night.”
The poker tables will be manned with dealers ready to explain the game for new players. Not ready to become the next Chris Moneymaker? Fret not, bingo and craft activities will also be offered.
SPU Giving Day
Gwinn Commons. April 2, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraiser for SPU that encourages donors to help fund the future of SPU, but it’s also a time for students to come together and get free swag! SPU will be giving away free merchandise and prizes at a giveaway table in Gwinn Commons to celebrate Giving Day.
Panel Discussion With Immigration Attorneys
Weter Collegium. April 2, 7 p.m.
With information about immigration constantly getting published, discussed and misconstrued, it can be difficult to get trustworthy details. The Office of Intercultural Programs is giving SPU students a chance to access professional immigration attorneys who can shine a light on the issues currently facing immigration. The attorneys will discuss individual rights, regulation, and the impacts of executive actions. Students are also encouraged to ask questions.
“La Tertulia” – Spanish Conversation Table
Marston Hall 216. April 2. Every Wednesday, 12 – 1 p.m.
The best way to become better at a language is to actually have conversations in it. After all, if you don’t use it—you lose it! Students are welcome to practice their Spanish with their peers at the Spanish Conversation Table. Students at any level of proficiency are encouraged to join in the dialogue.
