Though Seattle Pacific University’s Tradition is meant to be an annual event, it has not occurred since prior to the pandemic in 2020. Despite having been dormant for a few years now, the goal for those behind the event is to bring the event back, but stronger and with more people than before.
Third-year nursing student and organizer for the event Lesly Vejar described it as being a holiday-themed event open for anyone and everyone.
“We’re doing more inclusive holiday events,” Vejar said. “We’re trying to incorporate different things, like the decor so it’s like holidays in general. The idea is definitely that it’s open to everybody who wants to come.”
Despite the fact that it has now been a few years since Tradition has been held at SPU, the gap in between celebrations will have no effect on the event or amount of people welcome to enjoy the holiday cheer.
“The last time we did it was during COVID,” Vejar said. “Typically there are alumni who are invited to come and be a part of the event, so a lot of alumni should be coming this year too. Admissions have been involved as well in getting people together. We try and do something new every time and include a lot of people.”
As with every event at SPU, the biggest amount of work goes into setting up activities and finding ways to entertain any prospective attendees. According to Vejar, there will be no shortage of ways to have holiday fun for those who come to the Loop.
“We’re going to have a really big variety of different events,” Vejar said. “We’re going to have some reindeer arriving in Tiffany Loop. Every year for tradition we’ve done pictures with Santa, so we’re gonna be doing that with a student as Santa this year. We’re also gonna have some stuff going on in the SUB and Eaton as well. There’s going to be a lot for people to do.”
As fall quarter comes to an end, students looking for one last exciting night will have a chance to make that happen. If you are looking for a break during finals season, come celebrate the holidays with the SPU community in Tiffany Loop on Friday, December 6 at 7 p.m.
“There’s just going to be a lot of fun holiday things to do for everyone who arrives,” Vejar said. “For anyone who wants to just have fun with their friends, this event should be a really fun time for everybody.”
