Seattle Pacific men’s basketball started the week with an 88-77 loss to the California State University, Dominguez Hills Toros on Monday, Nov. 11.
The Falcons gained an early lead with a layup from junior guard Jaxon Nap. The Toros stayed close, trailing behind seven points at halftime. Seattle Pacific lost the lead in the 23rd minute when a tie broke in the Toros’ favor. Cal State Dominguez Hills held tight to the lead until the final buzzer.
Top scorers against the Toros were redshirt junior guard Mason Landdeck with 16 points and junior forward Grant Coleman with 13.
The Falcons’ next game was an exhibition against the University of Washington Huskies on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Seattle Pacific lost 77-62. The top scorers were Nap and Landdeck with 12 and nine points respectively.
After three ties, the Falcons broke away and led 38-27 at halftime. Seattle Pacific lost its momentum in the second half when the Huskies regained the lead in the 45th minute. The Falcons were limited to 24 points in the second half versus the Huskies’ 50.
Seattle Pacific then competed in the Pacific Northwest/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Challenge against Azusa Pacific University on Friday, Nov. 15, and California State University, San Marcos on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Falcons lost 80-66 against Azusa Pacific but found their first win of the season against Cal State San Marcos 76-71.
Junior guard Owen Moriarty led the Falcons in scoring against Azusa Pacific with two career highs: 23 points and seven rebounds. Seattle Pacific held the lead briefly at the start of the first half but Azusa Pacific pulled ahead with four consecutive three-pointers.
Moriarty was the lead scorer again versus Cal State San Marcos, matching his career-high 23 points. Seattle Pacific dominated the first half, entering halftime with a 41-26 lead. Cal State San Marcos came within one point of the Falcons in the final two minutes, but fastbreaks from Landdeck and Moriarty kept the Falcons in the lead and secured the win.
The Falcons will play Linfield University next on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in Royal Brougham Pavilion.
