Seattle Pacific University’s women’s soccer team returned to Interbay Stadium for their first home game of the 2024-2025 in-conference season on Thursday, Oct. 3, against Northwest Nazarene University.
Nazarene fought a tough match against SPU, keeping the score leveled at 0-0 entering the second half. The deadlock was broken 22 minutes into the second half by SPU’s senior midfielder Taylor Kreuger.
Kreuger’s fourth goal of the season, she has already matched her total from 2023, placing her fourth in the overall Great Northwest Athletic Conference in goals. The top spot is held by SPU’s junior forward Kayla Wallace with five goals.
“My teammates set me up well for any chances I get. My teammates put a lot of faith in me, and I put a lot of faith in them to put me in the right positions to score,” Kreuger said.
The second goal for SPU was scored by senior midfielder Lauren Snedeker. The final score of the match was 2-1, giving SPU their second conference win.
Another highlight of the match was sophomore goalkeeper Landry Schoenauer earning her first start for SPU. Schoenauer fought off six shots from Nazarene, only surrendering one goal in the game’s final minutes.
“I was super nervous, but I have teammates [who] support me, lift me up and allow me to trust in myself,” Schoenauer said. “[I was] able to control the back and keep it calm and keep everyone relaxed and composed [and that] helps us play the best soccer we can and helps us hold on to leads.”
The women’s soccer team returned to the field on Saturday, Oct. 5, against Central Washington University. SPU won 2-0.
Similar to their match against Nazarene, SPU was unable to score during the first half. The first goal of the game was scored by SPU 30 minutes into the second half. Sophomore forward Nora Patterson scored with an assist from Kreuger.
“It felt really good. After that happened, we were able to build off of it, and there was just a different energy that everyone [had], so it [was] a big shift,” Patterson said.
Following 90 seconds after Patterson, SPU doubled its score when sophomore midfielder Andie Buckley was assisted by Kreuger. These were Buckley and Patterson’s first goals of the season.
SPU’s conference record is now 3-0-1, and are 5-1-2 overall. Their only loss came during the pre-season 0-4 against University of Hawaii Hilo. SPU now sits at the top of the GNAC Division II rankings for women’s soccer.
